The Troop Center (Barracks) is missing which sucks since it's available all 4 Ages and would be another example. The way your Byzantine architecture changes over time more slowly reminds me of that. If you're familiar with the Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds clone of Aoe2 it's got 4 tech levels as well and almost all the buildings have designs for all the tech levels.
It's as if there was a checklist of all the things that have to change between the ages on the building but yours checks off less per age up. (going from that white sandstone look to the characteristic domed roof, all the filigree-looking fencing on the stairs and balcony etc). It's a shame that the feudal age buildings and the castle age ones have an obviously upgraded look but it's more subtle as opposed to the other civilizations, the Middle Eastern market in particular looking very evolved. It is a negative but, hey, one can only do so much when it's mostly for fun and with the tools on hand. I might try it for the keeps /BBT instead.Īs amazing as this set looks and as excited as I am for it, I do want to voice one opinion. I agree, it would be cool and historical - but its a challenge in terms of execution. Or if I make it a bit bigger than 1x1 to recover some of that mass, then it will cause issues with how it overlaps with the wall sections. To make them fit on a 1x1 square - the octagonal shape would sacrifice alot of visual mass (and I want these walls to looks ever so slightly bigger than the other civs). That will have to wait though, next in queue are the castle age TC, Barracks and Range - so that I can get it to a state where its worth doing an early release.Ĭharging Knight, I think unfortunately octagonal wall towers will be very hard to do well due to sizing issues. A bit more embellishment and it should be done. Basically, the left balcony will become enclosed under a roof with decorative screens and the roof tiles will be replaced with the lead sheeting (per the Byzantine wonder roof). When making the market, I already started thinking about how it can be upgraded to imperial age. Here is the Castle Age market, like the town centre I actually based it on the dimensions and layout of the Mesoamerican building. Actually it might be better to call it pixel-painting, because I built the custom textures up - then applied them to fit the facings on his graphic.
Once I hit critical mass on the castle age stuff I will add it to the workshop and then fill in the blanks but s progressing at a glacial pace at the nothing outside the normal 2D cut/paste method.
The roofing is to keep the nobles unfortunately cannot commit to any release date.
If it helps, think of it as a combined palace/fortification complex. I played around with bare roofs and it made the building look too monochrome unfortunately. The fortified walls will more or less be a thicker and slightly taller version of a similar you make a valid point, but I needed some contrast colour in the graphic. You are correct the walls show are stone walls. The official monastery models actually vary quite a bit in size, and I think my one fits roughly in the middle of the range, so I am comfortable with that. Charging_Knight, your post got my wondering if I had got my scale slightly off, so I did the below comparison.
